Today’s podcast begins with the amazing story of God asking Corrie ten Boom to forgive the man who betrayed her turned her in to the Nazi’s for rescuing Jews during World War 2.
God’s grace is both undeserved favor and the empowerment to do what scripture tells us to.
*God hates evil with a vehemence we can’t imagine. We see flashes of God’s anger toward evil in the Old Testament. At the same time, God’s nature is love. In love, God destroys evil to protect His children. God’s desire is for not one of His human children to be lost. His goal is always to separate you from evil, then to destroy that evil.
Romans 11:22 TPT
So fix your gaze on the simultaneous kindness and strict justice of God. How severely he treated those who fell into unbelief! Yet how tender and kind is his relationship with you. …
God is both holy (completely righteous with no compromise) and God is love.
Like God, we must learn to love people, while hating and fighting against the evil that is in their lives.
Ephesians 6:12 NLT makes this clear:
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 NLT
The podcast ends with an example in Dave’s life of God giving grace to someone in a church in China while disciplining her.
Activation
1. Most of us have someone in our lives who did wrong to us. Who is that for you? I’m asking you to go to God to receive His love for that person so you can forgive them.
Struggling to forgive? Take Romans 5:5. Read it. Pray it. Declare it over your heart until you have forgiveness and love in your heart.
Romans 5:5
“ And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
This may take a few days, but keep renewing your mind with Romans 5:5 until God heals your heart and replaces your pain of what that person did with His love.
2. Then, as Holy Spirit leads, send them a letter, text or email telling them you forgive them.
That note can’t have a whiff of criticism, condemnation, or anger in it. It must be God’s love flowing in and through you.
You have set yourself free from this offense. And now, you set them free.
3. Use wisdom about what you do next. If this person is untrustworthy, protect yourself. But give them grace, just as Jesus gave you grace.
Be blessed, my friend.
