Wheat and Tares: Poisonous Thoughts That Must be Removed

Some thoughts have been planted in us that confuse us, disorient us, poison our relationships, and make us spiritually dizzy. Today, we’re going to take practical steps to help you remove and replace those thoughts.
The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares
Jesus said, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field. 25 But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away. 26 When the crop began to grow and produce grain, the weeds also grew.
27 “The farmer’s workers went to him and said, ‘Sir, the field where you planted that good seed is full of weeds! Where did they come from?’
28 “‘An enemy has done this!’ the farmer exclaimed.
“‘Should we pull out the weeds?’ they asked.
29 “‘No,’ he replied, ‘you’ll uproot the wheat if you do. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.’”
Matthew 13:24-29 NLT
Jesus explained the parable: the soil is the world, the good seeds are God’s people and the tares are evil men.

But this parable also explains the condition of the heart of a Christian.

The seed planted by the enemy in this parable is "poison darnel", also called "false wheat." It has an amazing resemblance to wheat until the grains are ripe. Then it can easily be distinguished from true wheat. Poison Darnel has dark seeds that are poisonous.

If eaten, poison darnel causes confusion or disorientation as a person becomes dizzy with symptoms of being drunk. It causes violent vomiting and can even cause death

God’s Word is Our Food
From the time we were born, God has planted seeds of life in us, waiting for them to come to harvest not just in our salvation but in our destiny. We were created for a purpose. God has plans for us to accomplish specific things in our lives, powerful things to establish the kingdom of God here on earth.

Matthew 4:4 NIV
Jesus told Satan, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
John 4:34 NIV
“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
Colossians 1:6 NIV
In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace.

From our birth, Satan has fed us clever lies that look a lot like the truth.
Many of these lies are deeply planted in us as core beliefs that define who we are and how we see others and the world around us.

If we continue to feed on these false beliefs we will become more and more disoriented from the truth: dizzy, even drunk. Feeding on these false beliefs will make us sick, weak, and keep us from becoming the people God called us to be. The dreams that God had for our lives, His dreams and plans for us, will die if we continue to eat the grains of the "false wheat".

Carefully preparing our hearts to be good ground for the Word of God is important to become who God has called you to be. But this parable warns that we need to carefully sort out the false things that have been growing in our lives for years.

God is The Lord of the harvest. Let Him remove the poison wheat so that you can be like Him. From a transformed heart you will naturally do the works of God. As naturally as an apple tree producing apples.

Matthew 12:34-35
A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart.
Poisonous Thoughts that Must Be Removed

Holy Spirit will reveal the thoughts that must be removed. Here are some common areas where Satan has lied to us:
Poisonous False Beliefs About Ourselves
Poisonous Doubts – about God, His Word, His love for us (anything contrary to scripture).
Poisonous Half truths.
Poisonous Compromising Thoughts. (Well, I’ll watch this profane movie with nudity because the story is so interesting. Just this once.)
Poisonous Thoughts justifying emotions contrary to Love.
We justify anger, resentment, and comparison of others by focusing on what they do: their wrong or offensive attitudes and behavior. God tells us to forgive and to love.

God Gives You the Power to Remove and Replace Your Poisonous Thoughts

When Holy Spirit reveals lies we believe, we can pull them out by the root and replace them with God’s truth.

2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Proverbs 4:23 EXB
Be careful what you think [L Above all that you guard, protect your heart], because ·your thoughts run your life [L life flows from it].
