Have you ever returned money to a cashier who gave you too much change? Apologized to someone it was hard to apologize to? Told the truth even when it meant admitting you made a mistake? Have you ever refused to go along with the crowd because you knew it was wrong? How did it feel? There’s something deeply satisfying about doing what’s right.
God created us to be like Him. And gave us desires that drive us to want what he wants.

For the last 21 days I’ve been sharing with you the deepest desires of the human heart. The common thread through all 30 days of this video series 30 Days to Radically Shift Your Identity in Christ is a cornerstone spiritual truth: GOD CREATES DESIRES IN US THAT ONLY HE CAN FILL.

How will God fill your heart’s desire for goodness/righteousness?
God meets our desire for goodness and righteousness by giving us a new nature when we are born again. But He doesn’t stop there. He gives us His Word and Holy Spirit to work His righteousness, His goodness in our lives.

**God Is the Source of All Goodness
Mark 10:18
“No one is good except God alone.
Ecclesiastes 7:20
Surely there is no righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.
Romans 3:23, Psalm 106:1
Goodness is who God is and what we long to have.

**God Provides Righteousness Through Christ
No striving or human effort can ever achieve moral purity, true goodness or right standing before God.
Righteousness is a gift from God.

2 Corinthians 5:21
“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Our faith in Jesus makes us righteous.
Romans 3:22
“This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.”
And faith is given to us by God.
Ephesians 2:8
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”

God is the source and the giver of righteousness – his very goodness, to all who simply believe in Jesus.

*God Transforms Us by His Spirit and His Word
We grow strong in love and in Christlike character by enduring the storms of life. God wants us to succeed, so He not only gave us a new nature, He gave us the His Word to guide us.

Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:9
How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to Your word.”
And God placed Holy Spirit (God, Himself) inside us to empower us to overcome selfish and sinful desires and to be transformed to live good, righteous lives.

Ezekiel 36:26
“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”
Ezekiel’s prophecy was fulfilled when Holy Spirit came to live in all believers after the resurrection of Jesus.

Holy Spirit works in us to desire goodness and righteousness. And then He gives us the power to fulfill those desires.

Philippians 2:13 NLT
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
Galatians 5:16 NLT
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.
Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control

As we walk through life with Holy Spirit, he will guide us on the right paths and will give us both the desire and the power to do right. And Holy Spirit creates God’s goodness in us.

**God Forgives and Redeems Our Failures
God knew we would struggle with sin all our lives. Jesus’ blood forever cleanses us from sin.
1 John 1:9
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Ephesians 1:7 “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”
You are the Righteousness/You have the Goodness of God – That’s Your Identity
2 Corinthians 5:27
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

**Action step: The human desire for goodness, to be right and do right, draws us to God. Let God’s goodness shine through your life – both who you are what you do.

Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Ephesians 2:10
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Today, and every day, test your decisions. Develop the habit of doing what is right, what is good. And soon your life will be filled with the goodness and righteousness of God.
